We at The Heron's Nest send our condolences to Bob Spiess's family and
his many friends. We also wish to express profound gratitude for the
outstanding contribution Bob made to the world community of haiku poets.
We shall remember him as a kind man, a mentor, and a friend. Bob
dedicated his life to the study and enjoyment of haiku. While doing so,
he provided us poets with Modern Haiku, for which he was the
Editor-in-Chief for twenty-five years. Modern Haiku is at once a
splendid place to share our insightful moments, and an outstanding
resource through which to educate ourselves. The value of Bob's
nurturing influence is incalculable. We shall miss him more than words
can express, yet we are blessedhis legacy will be with us for many,
many years to come.
