the hoot of an owl
circles the house

snowed in —
grandma’s faded notes
for tatting

cold rainy night
salt drifts to the bottom
of the shot glass

nor’easter . . .
another puzzle piece
clicks into place

spring moon
      all night long
            the mockingbird’s song

all night snow
I listen to mouse feet . . .
crossing the attic

the root cellar’s
bare bulb
deep winter

her long hair
the slightest scent
of the sea

the outstretched fingers
of a toddler
first winter rain

vernal equinox —
storks again
in the old nest
